December 2011 News
Pictures of the Bellshill Salvation Army Brass Band playing on Sunday December 11, 2011 at Glamis Kirk service.
Six weeks ago, or thereby, since the new arrangement of guardianship started, things appear brighter for us at Glamis Inverarity Kinnettles Kirk. I, and others, detect a noticable "lift" in members of the congregation. Broader smiles, full-voiced singing and a general cheerier atmosphere at kirk and coffee afterwards.
Carleen looks and sounds comfortable with things although it will take time to settle. Adjustments will be necessary as we go along, but, so far, it is looking, and sounding good!
Last month, Rev Malcolm Rooney, from Glens & Kirriemuir Old Parish Church, took us through Communion and Sunday December 4 saw Rev Ian Murray from Isla Parishes taking his first service at Inverarity then Glamis an hour and half later.
Both gave us potted biographies of themselves which helps our congregations get to know them better. Their, and Carleen's, styles are naturally very different in approach. In my opinion, this can only do nothing but good for us.
Sunday December 11, Carleen led worship at Inverarity, and, at Glamis, the Bellshill Salvation Army Band (BSAB) led us in worship rather than Carleen, who instead, joined us in the pews.
What a day for us and the band. The lads and lasses from Bellshill were on the road at 7.00am, arrived in Glamis, played in the square before setting up in Glamis Kirk. After leading us in worship along with beautiful stirring music, they had lunch at the Strathmore Arms in Glamis going on to Glamis Castle to play for visitors.
Next came a concert for patients and staff of Strathmore Hospice (funded by Lippen Care, a registered charity) in Whitehills Health & Community Care Centre, Forfar. Their busy day finished with a Carol Concert in Lowson Memorial Church, Montrose Road, Forfar.
I would bet most, if not all, would have fallen asleep before arriving home in Bellshill. Thank you BSAB for a wonderful day and we wish you a very merry Christmas.
God bless,
"Webmaster".
